Gin Gimlet
You should NEVER "shake" gin.

Gimlets
Well, no. The best Gimlets I ever had were at a place called The Matchbox in Chicago: 1 oz. of pure, squeezed lime juice (never Rose's, never ever--it makes it a completely different, terrible drink), 3 oz. of vodka, and a heaping teaspoon or so of powdered sugar. All of this into a shaker filled with ice. Wipe a lime slice around the rim of a martini glass (yes, a martini glass), spin the glass rim in a pile of powdered sugar (they put the sugar in a pile of flat-bottomed coffee filters), and then vigorously shake the mixture. Pour it into the glass, no ice. Enjoy. Gin works too, but I prefer vodka. Once you try these this way, you'll never go back. The sugar cuts the tartness of the lime perfectly. A dangerous drink--three shots of vodka or gin, and you barely notice it, and it's quite easy to quaff three of them--suddenly, you're hammered. Mmm, Mmm good.
